2014 reasons to smile and laugh.

In just a few more hours it will be 2014.  Hard to believe all the hustle and bustle was leading up to just a couple of days of celebrations for Christmas.

Now with the main Christmas period behind us, for the majority it’s back to routine and  looking to the coming year and wondering what it has in store for each of us.

Yesterday, after visiting a friend and whilst getting off my bus by the Olton Tavern  near to where I live I saw a big display board advertising the fact they the restaurant are already taking bookings for Valentines day February 14th 2014 !! Do people really need reminding about this already, or in fact do they need reminding at all about when Valentines day is? Whatever next, Easter eggs in the supermarkets next week!!

Is it just me who thinks this, or is there such a high element of commercialisation about turning  religious celebrations and public holidays into huge money spinning events? It seems masses of people go panic food shopping for a few days before Christmas believing that they will go short over the Christmas holiday, and yet here in the UK the majority of shops reopen on Boxing day. For years I have heard people at my last place of work, and on the buses & trains talking about cutting back each year, then come the New Year they have so much stuff left over they have to throw it away  (thank goodness for freezers !!)

I know for many that 2013 has been a difficult year in many respects.  I hope and pray that the coming year will be much improved and over all  better for everyone. I have often heard people say, and in fact I know I have said it myself many times in the past ”good riddance to last year”.  And yet at some point  though, I believe having a bad year teaches us many different lessons,  hopefully not to make the same mistakes again. What I can say is that this last year, my life has changed, mainly for the better, and I hope 2014 is better still.

To all my readers and fellow bloggers I would like to take this opportunity to wish each and every one of you and your families a very Happy, healthy and wonderful year ahead.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

If it didn’t bring you joy
just leave it behind
Let’s ring in the new year
with good things in mind

Let every bad memory
that brought heartache and pain
And let’s turn a new leaf
with the smell of new rain

Let’s forget past mistakes
making amends for this year
Sending you these greetings
to bring you hope and cheer
Happy New Year!
